He has dropped his civil case against the CBC and will pay their $18,000 legal expenses. Until his criminal case comes up, he is out on bail (paid by his mother) and must stay with her at her home. This is a huge come-down for the Radio Star.
There will be no winners. Criminal lawyers agree that those four women who have charged Mr. Ghomeshi will have their private lives examined and exposed. When the trial is over, neither party may be able to tell their story. The judge can order a publication ban and both the women and Jian will be muzzled.
It is sad to see the fallout from Mr. Ghomeshi's unfortunate behaviour. No one should be tried in social media. Just as no one should do the things Jian is accused of.
Sasha designed and coloured this Remembrance Day poster in memory of all the soldiers who served. He sang In Flanders Fields by John MacCrae, not the entire poem because he had forgotten some of it. I suspect it was the melody which was fairly involved to make the lyrics work.
We looked at Dad's picture from before he shipped out. It is a formal, black and white portrait, quite small.
"He was so young," said Sash. He has trouble with the concept of great-grandfather but he knows the youthful man in the photo is my Dad. He has thought about Remembrance Day and has expressed a wish for peace.
Again...Dad would be so proud.
Sasha's picture is more traditional but it is his own design and he talked about how the poppies grew on the soldiers' graves.
It is a solemn day and for a seven year old, he has as good an understanding as anyone can expect.
This my personal way of saying thanks to all of Canada's servicemen and first responders. Yours is the most important job and I appreciate how well you all do it. Thank you.
I've been writing on and off for years and this is where my more serious pieces will be.
