![]() Yesterday the members of the High River PC organization said, "Thanks, but no thanks," to Danielle Smith. Sardines cannot play with sharks and Jim Prentice, Alberta's PC Premier is a shark. He swam previously with the big whites in Ottawa and survived. He honed his skills with the most politically astute people in Canada. Then to solidify the Conservative monopoly of Alberta, he made his move. What we saw was the shocking, hypocritical abandonment of the Wildrose Party by its leader and nine other "opposition" MLAs. Ms. Smith had her eye, I'm sure on, a plumb cabinet position, a reward for deserting her party, perhaps something Prentice promised. The more astute Premier Prentice hardly had to consult his crystal ball to guess that the people of High River didn't want any more to do with the traitorous Danielle. For him, Ms. Smith's loss was a win-win situation. No need to make an uncomfortable cabinet appointment. No more irritating sniping from the leader of the opposition. No more Danielle. Smooth, Premier Prentice and Ms. Smith, you are a big loosa...the biggest loser.
Premier Prentice is not my choice for leader of the province, neither was Ms. Smith. Danielle received what she richly deserved. The people of High River voted a Wildrose MLA in to represent them. That wouldn't be my choice, but it was theirs. They didn't want a PC MLA, and most certainly they don't want Danielle. Where might she cross next? What would be politically expedient? Danielle, time to brush up that CV. Buh-bye and good riddance.
