A recent visit with an old friend and a fashion article in the Edmonton Journal took me down memory lane. The fashion trend for 2015 is a throwback to the 70's. Bell bottom or flair pants, peasant blouses and platform shoes. They didn't mention hot pants...see the second photo. I was wearing these mid-winter on the prairies and the boots are go-go boots. The hair? I think I was ahead of the "big" look of the 80's.
The second photo does feature bell bottoms and what was considered a pant suit. I don't remember where I was going but look at the hair. It must have been tortured for the day into that Cleopatra look.
Thanks to platform shoes, I had long legs and was a couple of inches taller. At that time, fashion was flamboyant.
The Edmonton Journal advises shopping thrift stores for vintage seventies pieces but cautions against going too far. The look could turn out more like an outlandish costume. In the early 70's I channeled Cher and bought a purple suede outfit. It featured bell bottoms with long beaded fringes that hung from the knee. The tunic had matching fringes hanging from the mid-back and continuing to the front. I swished and clicked when I walked. I can't believe I wore that ensemble to teach school. I gave it (and the purple coat that went with it) away. Our dog at the time puked on the coat and suede didn't clean well. It might have been a sign in an era when omens and the astrolgogy were big.
I've been married a long time and often write about everyday events.
