It's that time of year. 2012 is almost over and 2013 looms, untarnished on the horizon. Time to make those life-altering resolutions that will make you, well, a new and better person. Thinner, maybe, smarter, kinder. You can choose anything you want. And mostly you will fail, because being creatures of habit most of us are, even your most sincere attempts are destined to fail and you will spiral back to the safe and familiar.
I can say this because over the years (and you know there have been a few) I have made resolutions with the determination. "This year I will keep a cleaner house. I will be more conventionally organized. I will get things done before the deadline.
My best resolution and the one that I actually kept was to quit smoking. 38 years ago, to the day at 12:00 AM, I had my last cigarette. In the light of medical conditions linked to smoking, an asthmatic daughter and a brother who had both legs amputated (partly due to smoking), I'm glad I did...It's one way to create a healthier lifestlye.
Really, now when I see someone smoking, I would like to rip the cigarette from their lips. My help wouldn't be appreciated so I have decided to make a new resolution- Stay postivie. Happy New Year and good luck with the resolutions.
I've been married a long time and often write about everyday events.
